“Volunteer for 15” is new, nationwide summer program for 11-18 year olds (Kansas City, MO) - Representatives from 15 and the Mahomies Foundation and Youth Volunteer Corps announced a new partnership program today. The program is called Volunteer for 15. It encourages youth ages 11-18 to make a pledge to volunteer 15 hours this summer. Youth Volunteer Corps will coordinate the program, and registration is now open on their website at YVC.org.

“I think so many kids in middle school and high school don’t realize how much of an impact they can make in their own communities by helping others,” said Patrick Mahomes. “I’m inspired by the YVC youth volunteers, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish this summer.”

“We’re so pleased to partner with the experts in youth volunteer service and encourage youth to volunteer 15 hours this summer,” explained Marques Fitch, the Executive Director of 15 and the Mahomies.

The projects are offered through Youth Volunteer Corps, an international youth volunteer organization that began in 1987. Youth will make the pledge to volunteer, and then will volunteer in-person or virtually. Both options include team-based discussion where they learn about issues affecting their communities, such as homelessness, reducing our carbon footprint, racial equity, etc., and reflect on their service experience.

“That service-based learning is really what makes YVC different,” said YVC CEO Tracy Hale. “Parents love YVC because it’s well organized and teaches the youth volunteers so much. Youth love YVC because it’s fun!”

To sweeten the deal, the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation is sending a specially branded “Volunteer for 15” T-shirt to the first 500 youth to register and complete at least 15 hours of service. On top of that, the youth who registers and completes the most YVC hours this summer will receive an autographed item from Patrick Mahomes!

Volunteer for 15 projects start June 1 and continue through the end of August.
